I can’t say enough just how much I love my Fuji X-Pro 1. It is just a beautiful camera that feels wonderful and a bit old school in my hands. It reminds me of the 1st 35 mm camera I ever used (it was my dad’s). I will admit though that it has taken me some time to really get use to this camera system but the pain has all been worth it. I originally bought it to see if I could use it as a back up system for my main Canon gear since I would prefer to have the Fuji around for more of my personal work and hoped it could pull double duty in that department. So far I have tested it out on landscapes and head shots and it has done WONDERFUL!….. so I thought I’d give it a go at newborn photography. Again thinking if I needed to use this as a back up system, would I be able to do all that I needed with this small mirrorless camera and the 35 mm lens and 60 mm macro lens. Well it handled beautifully! The 35 mm was a rock star! Produces beautiful images straight out of camera. I used the 60 mm as well for some up close baby features and it did very well but it was a bit hard to nail that focus (I find that macro lenses in general are hard because you have to manually focus for the best results). Here are some of the images from my session 🙂 If I had to complain- it certainly does not focus as fast as the DSLR system and there is still a lag between images that could drive you a bit crazy if you were trying to photograph fast moving toddlers.
This is an image straight out of camera:
If I were to say what my specialty is or what I enjoy photographing the most, it would be families. I really enjoy interacting with kids of all ages (especially when they aren’t mine!) and I honestly feel that a nice family portrait is truly important. I love seeing everyone together, smiling and enjoying each other. I truly believe that a nice family picture has a true place in this crazy overwhelming digital world where we are so bombarded with selfies. Find the magic that is a real picture, a printed picture….and one that you are ALL in!
It’s so fun to see just how much a little one can change in the matter of a year! They start out so stinking tiny and end up with loads of personality by the end of the 1st year! Oh and I have to include some of Joy’s maternity images simply because I love them soooooooooooo much! AND of course I had to share their super cute family Halloween costumes because they are such a fun family! Honestly we had so much fun during every single one of our sessions that it was really hard to figure out what images to share (as if you can’t tell by the visual overload below!). Thank you so much Joy for allowing me to capture the 1st year of your sweet baby boy! I look forward to seeing you all again soon!
One of the perks of running a very small family photography business is that I get to see my families as they grow! We were super excited to hear the Yancey’s were expecting twins! They decided to go for baby #3 and ended up with #3 and #4!!!! Their beautiful daughters (who we also got to photograph when they were babies) were so loving with their new brother and sisters. Congratulations to you all!
A little humidity didn’t stop us from having a beautiful early morning family photo session! I am in love with these pastel colors!!!! Oh and check out this super cute Organic Bloom wall collage – these frames are just so much fun!
Oh my goodness I can not believe I forgot to post this beautiful family photo session from the spring. I’m telling you – between posting a quick image or two to Facebook I often forget to blog the session (ok – honesty here….blogging is not my favorite thing to do either!). Such a stunning group of kids and man were they so polite and sweet!!!!!!!!!!! Loved spending the morning with this beautiful crew!
I am going to actually show you some of the pages out of their custom designed photo album (I do not put my logo on the actual pages – just for web viewing) and they chose a gorgeous gray linen fabric for the cover:
This first page we made into a panoramic image so that it look up both page 1 and page 2
Summer can be a tricky time for family pictures but if you are willing to get up early – it can be beautiful and not too terribly HOT! I am just in love with this beautiful family photo session we did here in Waxhaw this summer! Such a beautiful family and a cute cute cute little guy!
Oh so many ways your baby will change in that first year. It’s simply AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love seeing all the cute stages of a babies first year.
3-4months – holding their head up
6-7 months – sitting up
1 year- crawling or walking and usually a few teeth!
Ahh the joy of girls! A happy and sweet 3 month old little cutie and her big sister who was full of adventure and energy.
My little friend is getting so big! It’s so fun to see the “baby’s 1st year” participants as they grow! They change so much in that first year! This little guy is just about 6 months old during this photo session and is so smiley and in love with his big sister! I just love this age since they can sit on their own and they usually have a little bit of chub on their thighs and such loving personalities 🙂
Please contact me if you would like more information on our first year program. We usually do 3 photo sessions around 3-4 months, 6-7 months and 1 year old with a beautiful coffee table album with the 1st year images at the completion of the series.
