First family pictures ~ Saint Augustine

I am so happy that I had the opportunity to photograph this families first ever professional family photography session where they were all together!  It’s so hard for our military families to find the time and schedule a family photo since time is simply so limited!  This sweet family only had their dad home for a few short weeks before he had to ship out once again! I really thought the weather was going to cause a problem for us since it was January but nope – it turned out to be a stunningly beautiful day!  We met up and strolled around the beautiful downtown streets of Saint Augustine!

Thank you for your service to both Dad and his family for all they have to endure while he is away keeping our country safe!  Fair winds and following seas.

Family pictures at Alpine Groves Park

So many people tell me “anywhere but Alpine Groves, it’s so overdone”  but I personally can’t get enough of it!  It is such a beautiful location with the morning sun coming through the trees.  It’s a great place to consider if you have young children and need a morning time photography session since Alpine Groves offers such a variety of spaces and no danger of a little one running into the street!

I’m often asked what the best time of day is for family pictures.  Well the best time of day depends on the type of images you want.  If you want the soft light of sunset then an hour before sunset is when we would meet, but if you have little kids – that can be one of the worst times of day for them!  The best time of day is the time of day that your little people will be happy!  Grumpy little ones can make mom and dad stress out and that’s not the family picture you most likely had in mind! That’s why I love having a few parks that we can use to do morning sessions as that is often the best time of day for little ones – just after their morning nap!  Don’t worry – you will have plenty of time for a beach sunset session as they get bigger 🙂 I promise!

As kids get older – we often have to work around sports schedules so that’s another great  reason to consider a morning family picture session 🙂

Here is my lovely sister- n- law and her family that I bribed into taking my family pictures in exchange for her family pictures during their visit at Thanksgiving (Yes, I’m way behind on blogging!….I’ll post those here soon).

My assistant is the bestest

Just a quick little personal post – if you hire Carrie Scruggs Photography you just might meet this guy….. my fabulous bag carrier, light tester, toy squeaker, dog wrangler, toddler wrangler, wind blocker, reflector holder extraordinaire! Otherwise known as….. my oldest son.  Nope – he doesn’t love photography or aspire to be a photographer…..but he is willing to do whatever is necessary to feed his fishing habit/lure buying addiction 🙂

Family pictures in your home ~ Julington Creek Plantation

Sometimes the best place for a family picture is simply in your own house!  I love taking family pictures at a clients home simply because I love the memories from seeing your home in your pictures.  For us, we have lived in several different states and in several different homes and it’s nice to have a professional picture of us in our favorite place – our home!  We love seeing the different houses we have lived in and how we had it decorated.  They say home is where the heart is and I couldn’t agree more!

Foster families are the best

I am simply amazed at the size of heart this family has.  In less than a year from becoming approved foster parents, this family has given their love, time and home to 4 very young kids from two different families (including a baby!) and she still makes time to volunteer almost daily at our elementary school and is super active in our PTO.  How she finds the drive and energy is beyond me.  If it were me, I think I would have found a new best friend named Ben and Jerry’s!  Thank goodness for families that give so willingly.  The love they are sharing with their foster kids will make a difference in these sweet kids lives more than we could ever possibly know.

Twins!  How wonderful and crazy your life must be with twin girls!  I can only imagine!  From a mom of 3 boys – twin girls is like the opposite side of the universe for me!  I definitely think I would go broke on all the cute clothes out there for girls though!

I was so super impressed by the positive attitude this sweet young family had after loosing their home and 2 beloved dogs to a house fire during hurricane Irma.  Luckily mom and babies were away at the store and dad is a volunteer fire fighter who was away helping other families deal with the hurricane.  I can’t imagine the heartbreak they are feeling losing all their pictures and belongings.  Stay strong and hug and love on those babies!

Family pictures at the Lightner Museum

I am so lucky to have such gracious and willing friends to help me explore my new city!  Many thanks to Dana and her fantastic crew for venturing around Saint Augustine with me!  I loved visiting the Lightner Museum , so many beautiful structures in this building to explore! The streets of Saint Augustine are always so interesting and beautiful!  The bridge of lions was a bit harder to photograph even though it was overcast but we got one good one at least! I am really looking forward to exploring all that this wonderful city has to offer!  I just love how wonderful these family pictures turned out!  Thanks for thinking outside the box Dana…. and pushing me outside my comfort zone of local parks 🙂

Knock knock….. San Marco Fl Family photography

Thanks to my buddy – I now have a new favorite knock knock joke! You have to say it out loud to get it though….. so give it a try! Seriously if you have kids they will love this knock knock joke.  I had to tell it to all my kids the minute I got home and I laugh to myself each time I think about it!

knock knock.  Who’s there?  Smell Mop.  Smell Mop who?  Ha ha hahahahhahahha you just said smell my poo!!!!

I can’t thank my dear friends enough for giving up their Sunday morning to help me explore some of the local areas to see how they would work in photographs.  I’m happy to say that we had GREAT success taking family pictures in San Marco!  The morning started off overcast so we just had the most beautiful lighting by the lions!

and then we decided to reward our sweet little models with some super yummy donuts from Good Dough.  This has got to be the cutest donut (doughnut???? which is it really) shop ever! They had a wonderful craft variety of yummy goodness and people were lined up to try their goodies right at 9 when they opened.  They even have a little wooden play kitchen for the littler kids 🙂  A must try if you are ever in the area!

St. Augustine Beach Wedding – Vilano Beach

I am so happy to have had the opportunity to work with Sun and Sea Beach Weddings these past few weeks.  If you are looking to get married on the beach in Jacksonville, Saint Augustine, Amelia Island (they also do Georgia beach weddings like Jekyll Island) then you should DEFINITELY check them out!  They provide a full range of wedding from something simple and romantic for just the two of you or something larger if you have friends and family that you would like to share your special day with.  They also offer same sex marriage.

I had a great time with Marsha and Sean even though we got rained on by the end! I just fell in love the minute I saw her dress and his suspenders oh and their matching Converse shoes!!!!!!!!! So so sweet! Take a peek 🙂
